Hi All,.

 

Got another question.......

 

How powerful should the heater fans be .

 

Coming from a passat where the heater fans would blow your toupee off at 20 paces, I find the Galaxy fans puny in comparison, or is there a problem?

 

The most I get at full blast through the centre fans (just above the radio ) is a gentle summers breeze. They certainly increase in strength with adjusting the fan button on the Climate Control , but wouldn't blow a feather over at 6 inches.

 

I have a feeling something is not working properly, or come adrift.

 

Any ideas?

My 3 and 4 setting are pretty strong and noisy, but my 1 and 2 setting are pretty weedy.

 

I have an inclination that the No 2 setting used to be a lot stronger, but has got weaker over the years - is this possible or my imagination ?

Rusty - I share your thoughts, the airflow from the vents is seemingly nothing like as powerful as in other cars I have owned/driven. The fans are noisy though, but there are a large number of vents so whether or not this "dilutes" the speed of air emerging from the face vents, for example, is a matter of conjecture.

Has anyone considered a blocked pollen filter, just a thought. try temporelery removing it and see what happens.

 

Had a look at mine. god knows how u get it out, just about get my hands in the gap.

the problem could also be a problem with the heater motor resistor causeing high resistance ! and seeing that its near the pollen filter and drains there could be dampness causeing eletrical problems. on no that can't be right shalaxies with electric problems !!!!!!!!

Dampness of the heater motor resistor pack! if that's getting damp then you have serious water ingress problems :( its about 7/8 inches up off the floor pan and mounted externally on the heater housing!

 

I think one of the main causes of loss of air flow through the vents is the distance and route it has to take! on most cars the heater unit is mounted on top of the gearbox hump central to the car meaning that the air trunking is very short, on the Galaxy the heater unit is behind the dash on the passenger side and the route the air has to take is rather a convoluted affair! the loss through the joints behind the dash will account for a lot of the loss as well as the suggestion of a blocked pollen filter!

there is how ever a high performance resistor pack that is/was available!

for those of you with a TIS have a look in the TSB section for the Galaxy under water ingress in the passenger foot well

the part number is Blower motor resistor Finis Code 7 275 956

this I understand allows the fan to run faster in order to suck through the modified pollen filter and its housing! worth a try?

yep .... I can confirm the bulletin on the TIS disc - there was a modification available to improve airflow on No 2 setting as most drivers did not use No 3 due to the noise, the improved No 2 setting was to reduce misting up which can be a problem in Galaxy's. I have often considered getting the iproved resisitor pack as I hate using No 3 fan speed. Any feedback from users of the new resistor packs appreciated.
